I was born in 1971, right when the world was falling hard for a new breed of heroes: Spider-Man swinging through comic panels and Luke Skywalker igniting his lightsaber on the silver screen. While other kids were out chasing baseballs, I was chasing something different: plastic action figures and worn-out comic books. I’d line them up on my bedroom shelf like a little army standing at attention, each one quietly promising me that the good guys could win.
As the years went by, I grew up tall and steady. When it came time to choose my path, I didn’t take the easy road. I laced up boots and put on uniforms—first in the military, where I learned what real courage tasted like during those long, quiet 3 a.m. watches, then in law enforcement, where I stood between danger and the people who depended on me. Later came years in the security world, walking silent hallways, reading shadows, and doing my part to keep things a little safer for everyone else.
Through every deployment, every graveyard shift, every late-night patrol, one thing stayed constant: my collection kept growing. A new G.I. Joe here, a pristine Batman issue there. Friends would say to me, “Still playing with toys at your age?” and I’d just smile. Those shelves were never about toys to me. They were everything. Every figure stood for the promise I made to myself as a kid: protect the innocent, stand tall, never back down. The comics showed me that even the strongest heroes carry scars, doubts, and heavy nights, and they keep moving forward anyway.
